Yahsmin has penned works in focus of music, culture, art, politics and social issues around the world. She is apart of emerging artistic movements in America and beyond, having been published in six journals internationally- Off the Hook, The Platform, Kingsize, The Hip Hop Reader and Words, Beats & Life and presided as Editor in Chief of Illume in its first year. Rooted in California, her local news coverage has been featured in independent newspapers throughout the Bay Area and her expertise has been requested for PR with Autolect Brand Creative.

Yahsmin’s undergrad work experience began in early childhood education where she volunteered in a non-profit community center in Oakland, California. This grew into a full time instructional aide position, where her love of language was imparted to classes of second, third and fourth grade students of all backgrounds and learning styles. Lending to a stronger awareness, she learned the importance of co-op learning in urban settings and the relevance of developing sustainable institutions of knowledge within the inner city where resources, both human and otherwise, are scarce. Later, Yahsmin broadened her horizons by supervising after school programs on four elementary school campuses, in a partnership with the school district, city officials, campus faculty and a non-profit through which she worked for two years.

By day, she is responsible for creating and implementing curriculum in creative writing, character education, literary and performing arts while continuing to pursue certification in Non Profit Management through the CSU system. With hopes to preserve the counterculture of her generation, she authors work in the way of educational reform, Hip Hop scholarship and discourse.
